Pit 50: Level 3

Completed October 6, 2013 by Ron Vaughn, Art Coogler, David and Odess Brinkman, DC Locke, Dean Hunt, and Al Nooft. Ron Vaughn (Cayce History lover and father of Cayce Mayor Elise Partin) joined us in the last Level. Ron picked a good level and we needed him. Also stopping by were our Granby divers Catherine Sawyer and Jimmy Armstrong. There were not really any unique finds in level 3. It was just the sheer number of artifacts. We had a feeling level 3 might push pit 50 to the top. Later that evening, after artifact cleaning/counting, the feeling was confirmed. For the second time in 8 days, we had a new number one pit. The numbers also took us over the 7000 artifact milestone. Pit 50 also becomes the first pit to break the 300 artifact milestone. Pit 50 produced (all levels), a record 87 pieces of pottery, a record 108 pieces of glass, 31 nails, 9 Native American pieces, 5 pipe pieces, and a brass button. What a great way to mark our milestone 50th pit!. After the pit was closed, Digger Debbie Bloom joined us for a 50th pit celebration in the Granby house.

Pit 50: Level 3 produced: 48 pieces of pottery, 67 pieces of glass, 16 nails, 2 pipe pieces, several Native America pieces, and large amounts of brick and charcoal.
