Pit 58: Level 1

Completed December 28, 2013 by Odess and David Brinkman. Two people can do a pit but with only 4 hours (until dark and rain moving in after that), it would be a little challenging. Things did not start off well as we ran into a large part of a pine tree root. This tree died about 2 years ago and is the huge stump just 10 feet away from the pit. It wasn't so much the cutting of the root that was difficult, but more the root fragments that slow the sifting. The soil was also damp making sifting even more difficult. Level 1 took about 90 minutes to complete and we recovered only a few pieces of pottery and glass.

Pit 58: Level 1 produced: 3 pieces of pottery, 5 pieces of glass, and 1 nail.
