Pit 83: Level 1
Completed on July 25, 2015 by David and Odess Brinkman. Level one had typical pottery and glass counts and a nice pipe bowl and a new metal button type. The button is much smaller than the obvious colonial period buttons we have found and appears to be iron instead of brass. This could mean it comes from a different period (probably after the Granby). Could be Civil War. As expected in this location, we found more of the old mortar pieces but they were all relatively small compared to pieces found in the levels 1 of adjacent pits.
Pit 83: Level 1 produced: 6 pieces of pottery, 5 pieces of glass, 1 nail, 1 button, 1 pipe bowl piece, 4 Native American pieces, and 37 pieces of primitive mortar.
