Lowndes signatures on Japanese 10 Yen bills

Initially printed in the U.S.A., subsequently printed in Japan.
Notes with B underprint were legal tender for Japanese citizens from September 1945 until July 1948.

The USS Lowndes Occupation of Japan was only from Sept 25 to Sept 29 of 1945. It is likely that these bills were picked up in Japan, at that time. The Lowndes crewman that owns these bills is unknown. A photocopy of them was found in a Lowndes reunion archive box. Corbett and Dickson are the only two crewmen with signatures on both bills. Maybe one of them was the owner of the bills. In the next to last Lowndes newsletter (2010), Bud Kautz shows an image of the bills and asks: Anyone remember these? Corbett died before the reunions started and Dickson had died in 2001.
