Pit 115: Level 1

Completed on January 6, 2021, by Sarah, Bernalyn, and Dan Phillips, and Odess Brinkman. At 11:05 on a chilly morning of Wednesday, January 6th, I started pit 115 that is located inside the fence between the Magnolia and the Judas tree. With me were a family of three(3) from Aiken, SC, Dan and Bernalyn Phillips with their 4-year daughter, Sarah. The first few shovels were pretty challenging as not only the dirt was cold but also wet from the rain of prior days. Our excitement was even more triggered when little Sarah found the first artifact of the first level (as shown in the photo.) It is a cream ceramic that is commonly found in all pits. Sarah has been so helpful in finding stuff, I guess because she is closer to the ground than we all were. She was so eager to try the shovel and wanting to find more artifacts. We haven't found more seeds or buds in any pit than we have on this one. We also found glass, iron, charcoal, plastic, bricks, rocks, and asphalt.

Pit 115: Level 1 produced: One piece of pottery, on glass, one charcoal, and one iron.
