Pit 129: Level 3
Completed on July 2, 2021, by Beth Santiago, Lyn Del Rosario, Art Coogler, Josephine Bachman, Jocelyn and DC Locke, Odess and David Brinkman. Level three produced a good set of Granby items, but there were no more necklace or pipe pieces. The disturbance of the pit from the gas line is most obvious in the huge amounts of gravel and asphalt that we found in this level. In the row of pits just west of this pit, we would never find these modern items in level three. Overall, pit 129 was a good pit and provided a lot of excitement for the many people that were involved on this day. Within 24-hours, David would become ill with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. In less than a week, he would fall into the most dangerous stage of the disease, where the mortality rate is 100 times greater than COVID-19. He survived that, but the full recovery would take months, and the Granby dig was suspended.
Pit 129: Level 3 produced: 5 kitchen pottery, 6 kitchen glass, 6 window glass, 4 nails, 3 Native American, 6 iron, and 23 slag.
In total Pit 129 (all levels) produced: 15 kitchen pottery, 2 stoneware, 20 kitchen glass, 28 window glass, 19 nails, 3 pipe, 81 activity, 7 Native American, and 14 dress.
Out of all the pits in the Granby dig, this pit ranked: 53
