Pit 60: Level 1

Completed by DC and Jocie Locke, Debbie Bloom, and Odess and David Brinkman on January 20, 2014. 63 degrees and the MLK holiday got us out for a rare weekday dig. Being pit 60, we would be taking another snapshot of the dig's average number of artifacts per pit. Since very early on in the dig, this number has gone up every 5 pits as we center in on the hot areas. The previous pit (59) only yielded about 70 artifacts because of a huge root system in the pit. To keep that artifact average rising, we would need about 150 artifacts today. Pit 60 is on the other side of the fence so we thought we had a pretty good chance of doing this and, in fact, we got a really good start in level one with a higher than average number of pottery pieces. It was good to get a break from the wet and root infested area of the last few pits.

Pit 60: Level 1 produced: 23 pieces of pottery, 10 pieces of glass, 3 nails, and a possible Indian bead or jewelry stone.
