From "Phase I Archaeological Survey for a Proposed
Sidewalk along Riverland Drive
and New/Old State Road
Cayce, South Carolina" by New South Associates, Inc: Natalie Adams Pope - Principal Investigator and Author.
"Artifact found was an unidentifiable piece of plain
porcelain at 20-30cm. Size: cm 1 and 0.2g. While not a very temporally sensitive item, the date range overlaps the
time period that Fort Congaree II was used. The soil profile in these shovel tests indicated that the tests
were excavated into utility trenches. The top 10 centimeters consisted of humus, followed by a
yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) sandy loam to the depth of between 70 and 75 centimeters. A light
brownish gray (10YR 6/2) silty loam reached to 100 centimeters. Asphalt and gravel was found
throughout ST 61."
